Two years on!!

A couple of years after the last entry on my Blog I suddenly found it again!   During the chaos of the last two years I had totally forgotten about it and all my exciting plans.   Before settling into our retirement we needed to downsize to smaller property and rid our home of a combined 80 odd years worth of stuff, yes STUFF, a mixture of memories, rubbish, useful things, rubbish, domestic necessities, rubbish, you get the picture.

With the help of a skip or three and a number of press ganged family and friends we finally sold up and moved into a gorgeous (it will be) Victorian end of terrace.   The quart into a pint pot actually works if you really try then dump the spillage before you spouse can see it.

More workmen, surely not!

Actually have plumber under kitchen sink, hob all fixed so tap going in.  What a pity it turns out that the leak under sink is not from sink tap but from tap outside!   Lots of muttering going on, this quick job is taking bit longer than planned.

On plus side found holes in roof, that’s not the plus bit,  asked for recommendations for roofer on Facebook.   Guy turned up at lunch time, sent quote 2 hours later and starts job at 8am tomorrow.   He is new to area and building up his business here:)

Update on update

And another update, got a call this morning from original plumber who passed by last night to say he has worked out way to sort out radiator and possibly shower and now he will do them on wednesday, day after he does hob and tap!!   I suspect he realised we were a little bit upset when he saw us last night:)

Update on update

Gas man came, to fix shower, hob and tap.....gas man looked, sharp intake of breath at shower problem.   Apparently it will take at least 2 hours work to turn the pipe round the way the electrician needs it plus he can't  do that job for couple of weeks, radiator will also be a problem and can't be done yet.

Hob he can do next week and tap too but nothing today, the day he told me he was coming to do the jobs.....I GIVE UP...

Bathroom update

Surprisingly the  gas man did not make it for his appointment:(   He now says tomorrow afternoon.   We shall see, plus we now have additional job to put right, the pipes he connected our bathroom radiator with are in a random position meaning they can’t be boxed in and are set about 6” away from the wall!  So two jobs to re do and two not yet started!   Onward and upward..................

The saga of my long awaited bathroom.

My bathroom, a very small room, about 6 foot square.   Originally it was modernised in the 70s.   It was given tiled walls and a fetching, the owners must have thought, pink bathroom suite.   The bath was latest design with lots of lovely jets of water to sooth achey muscles.............lovely you would think.   Sadly I never got to find out.

My dear husband found the house before he found me. Not liking the idea of the lovely relaxing water jets he decided not to have them, so he disconnected and removed their pump rendering the holes surplus to requirements.

Happy with his house improvement he looked for another project, he found one in the Master Bedroom, a lovely comfortable room.  His first improvement was to take out the radiator as he prefers a cool bedroom.  He looked around for more improvements to make and decided to take out the main ceiling light as he prefers dimly lit rooms.  Happy with the effect he promptly removed sittingroom light fitting too.

Finally he decided to reverse the opening of the bedroom door.  This worked but he somehow forgot to repair holes left for handle and key hole.  15 years on they are still there just in case he changes his mind again!

Anyway, back to my bathroom.  Just after Christmas we decided to update the bathroom.  I was super excited, the shower room and loo downstairs I considered to be Himself’s bathroom, nicely decorated in blue with Travel theme.  I was going to choose my own theme and colour scheme.

First things first we rushed out and found a nice white suite and a new shower unit.  This was duly delivered and temporarily stored in the hall way and the dining room, ready for installation.   I ordered my choice of shower curtains and mats.  My colour was to be pale green.  Nice plumber came and removed old suite, and told us he would be back to install the new one,  then I waited, and waited and waited..................

Meanwhile my life partner decided to remove all the tiles from the walls and soon we were back to bare brick.  I was just a little concerned as I thought tiles could have stayed on wall, but apparently not.

Again we waited, by now, much as I like the downstairs loo I found it a bit of a pain in the wotsit at night.  Get up, put landing light on, wait for bulb  to light up fully, shuffle down stairs, put light on, wait for bulb, wee, light off, crawl upstairs, light off and collapse back in bed.  It’s ok for a night or so but no longer and I did mention this fact once or twice, probably more.

Days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months.  Eventually for some reason, the light of my life decided it was time to persuade his plumbing friend to fit the new loo in the empty bathroom, this was a great improvement, then back to the waiting and waiting and waiting.  We are now in mid summer and I wanted simple things like access to water upstairs when I was ironing in my sewing room or to wash my hands.

I persuaded a lovely handy young friend to put sink and bath into bathroom so there was water, but still no walls.   Finally my lovely husband noticed I was a little peeved with the situation and got some plaster board to begin the job.   It is now mid October, the shower went up, the electrician came to do the electrics, the electrician left again as gas man had got a pipe wrong way round, gas man made appointment to return, then cancelled it, another gas man made an appointment and he cancelled and third one could not fit us in for ages.

Meanwhile gas hob died and new one was delivered but no one available to fit it then kitchen tap gave up on us so plumber needed. Now have appointment with original guy again for tomorrow.

This afternoon we decided to go look at floor coverings for the bathroom, we were looking at all the options when my lovely spouse decided to mention he had some suitable tiles sitting in his workshop, we could use those he said.  Exit from shop one very frustrated and long suffering me, now let’s watch this space to see what happens next.  Apparently we are on target to be using bath room in November, not holding my breath just yet!

Plans for my Blog!

Working on ideas for this Blog, not difficult to think of some, difficulty is choosing which ones:)

Lets try my plans for today:-

Design a quilted play mat for my third, yet to be born, Great Niece.  Looking forward to working on this, I made one for my niece 28 years ago and she now uses it for her girls:)    Found this lovely fabric on line so tomorrow will go and get some plain fabrics to add to it.

Lovely folk art piece which hopefully won't go out of fashion:)

Next job for today, working on my Christmas Elf for our Christmas Lights event on 2nd December.  The Dereham Carnival Crafters are really busy with this event and one of our plans is to have a Trail of Shop windows with an Elf in each that the children can find.

More information about the Crafters here     https://www.facebook.com/groups/1931120097145211/

Update, did not sort quilt design today but did find suitable design to use to make a pattern for a baby from 1918 to wear!

The Carnival Crafters are providing life size figures of an elderly mother, a young widow and a baby to attend the Centenary Remembrance service at Northgate High School on Friday 9th November.  We are also providing 100 knitted poppies and a knitted wreath with a cross stitch centre.
